It can be more than a little intimidating to look at a dream and a goal as lofty as becoming a fighter pilot and asking yourself, “Do I really have what it takes to become a leader of men and women in the military and control a machine as sophisticated and as powerful as an F-22 Raptor or F-35 Lightning II?”
Well, I know that the answer is ‘yes’, because I did it! And you’re talking about a guy who actually failed kindergarten!!
Whenever you look up at the sky and see a powerful fighter jet flying by, you have to realize that the person flying that awesome plane isn’t just some lucky person who was anointed by birthright of by God. And they are not superhuman!
They are human beings…frail meat-covered skeletons just like you! And they have the power of the world at their fingertips.
If you haven’t already, I would encourage you to take at least one flight lesson at your nearest local airfield. (Look them up online. They are a lot more common than you think.) Not only can you get a taste of what flight is like well ahead of time (which is part of what I was talking about in our last post, “Begin Training NOW!”), but you will have already started living your dream.
One thing you are bound to discover as you begin your flight training well in advance of your military training (you can do it even through high school of college) is that from the day of that first flight lesson, you will never look at your dream of becoming a fighter pilot the same way again. In a truly spectacular way, it will already be real! Flying is flying…whether it’s in a Cessna or Piper airplane, a fighter jet, or a commercial airliner (which many fighter pilots go on to fly after retirement from the service.) A flying is one of the biggest joys you will ever experience!!
Living the dream is something that can begin right now, there is literally nothing to stop you but your own inhibition! If you begin flying now, begin training yourself mentally (school), physically (working out), socially (work or school leadership activities) and in your knowledge of the services and what they have to offer (the Fighter Pilot Power Pack), you will already be on the road to making your dream come true. In fact, it have already partially come true! It’s just a matter of moving up to where you want to be in the service of your choice and learning about military training programs and your favorite aircraft ahead of time.
So what are you waiting for?! Make the dream come true right now! There is no stopping you!
